Philadelphia may not be on your list if you’re heading to New York, but a simple 90 minute train journey from Penn Station will take you direct to the heart of Pennsylvania where a slightly slower pace and better value for money awaits. Philadelphia in Greek translates as ‘brotherly love’ and as a city it is open, friendly and buzzing with life. It is well-known for being particularly gay-friendly and the neighbourhood of Gayborough is a sprawling cool area, next to the Centre City district and is just teeming with hip restaurants, cafés and bars and shops too.
