Renting a property doesn’t mean your home can’t be packed with style and full of personality, with a little creative flare, some careful redecoration, some bargain finds along with modern day furnishings, Barbara and David have proved this point.

After 13 years living in Edinburgh, Barbara and David decided to relocate to Ireland in order to be closer to Barbara’s family. ‘We both loved Edinburgh, it’s so inspiring and we had a fantastic city lifestyle there. Moving in to our first apartment triggered a love of interior design and styling.’ They describe their style as mid-century with boho-luxe vibes. ‘We were very much spoilt living in Edinburgh with the number of wonderful charity shops and with the bargains on offer we were able to pick up some mid-century pieces before they became popular. Our years in Edinburgh definitely brought out the treasure seeker in me for unique bargain finds often with a great story behind them,’ explains Barbara.

Opting to rent, they wanted to find a place that had plenty of room to house their Scottish treasures and they spotted this unfurnished bungalow on the outskirts of Newbridge. There were a few things in the property’s favour, it felt very spacious with a front and back garden and had the potential for improvement. Over the past three years the couple have given the house a much needed update, initially replacing the dated magnolia paint with tones of off whites and greys supplied by Farrow and Ball, and changing the curtains and the pendant lights, instantly making the house feel a bit more like their style.
