Welcome
At long last we’re enjoying some summer sun, and in turn, getting our garden spaces ready to soak up every last ray! With the times we’re living in dictating a need for entertaining outdoors, we look at ways you can make your garden work for you – even in an Irish climate! Whether a relaxed seating area, an outdoor kitchen and dining room or somewhere to enjoy a movie or a soak in a hot tub, we’ve got you covered! Our homes include a restored Victorian terrace property in Westmeath, as well as a worker’s cottage in Rathmines – we know a few of you will recognise this winning home! We also visit a striking renovation of a ‘60s bungalow in Newtownards that makes the most of its stunning views out over Strangford Lough.
This issue we’ve highlighted a selection of interior and lifestyle shops throughout Ireland – while all offer online shopping, most have a physical store we hope to be able to visit very soon. There are also lots of other Irish brands and makers throughout the magazine, offering everything from furniture and gifts to beauty and food. It seems a cheese toastie has become quite a thing in lockdown!
As for our cookery pages, this month’s recipes are full of Mediterranean flavour! Yes, we may not be able to travel to our favourite European destinations just yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t make a delicious paella in your own kitchen! Talking of travelling, we learn more about what Kilkenny has to offer those paying a visit and take a closer look at the luxurious Shelburne Lodge in Kenmare.
Finally, I would just like to say, if you have a home or business that you would like us to consider featuring, then please don’t hesitate to email me at mconnolly@ihil.net
