With that in mind, your kitchen space must tick many boxes, including being an aesthetically pleasing space in which to spend time. A new kitchen is a big investment, so you want to get it right and choose a design that you will enjoy for years to come. Our kitchen planning feature will help you start to think about all of the individual aspects that make up your kitchen; what you should be taking into consideration and when, such as flooring, storage and flooring, and how to go about picking your kitchen designer. We also understand that some kitchen spaces can only cater for a specific kitchen layout, so with that in mind we gave four kitchen designers the challenge of designing to a brief, each to a different kitchen layout, with L shape, U shape, galley and open-plan. We also take a look at some of the different styles and finishes that are achievable in kitchens, from earthy tones to light and bright.
Our readers’ homes take us to Siobhan and Barrie in Belfast, where they took an existing design and made it their own contemporary home with open-plan living. On to County Clare, Louise and Dominic show us their renovated 18th century cottage that they have sympathetically turned into a modern home, and won RTE Home of the Year 2017. In Wicklow, Patrick and Ros’ two hundred year old cottage is filled with charm, and it comes as no surprise that it also won the RTE Home of the Year 2018!
