Marie transformed a dated mid-century home in Holywood using lots of weatherboarding, tongue & groove panelling and a crisp palette of blues and whites.It’s true what they say – never judge a book by its cover’ says Marie. ‘Having caught the renovation bug for a while, we tended to look for period properties in need of refurbishment and never even considered a mid-century home. But this is without doubt the most pleasant home we have ever lived in and we plan to stay put this time,’ she says with a smile. The couple were out for a walk along the nearby Holywood shore when they spotted a home for sale which changed their whole thinking.
The house, which was in its original state, was typical of that era with ugly windows, horrible doors, lots of small rooms downstairs and completely devoid of any interior features. However the location was so good, the couple wondered could they perhaps make it more appealing inside and out. In particular, they liked the steep pitched roof and with a bit of imagination, they felt they might just be able to create a little touch of the beautiful coastal homes they’d often admired when holidaying in Cape Cod.
