Creating Meadows in Irish Gardens

This issue our gardening expert Conrad McCormick discusses how to perfectly create a meadow in your garden.

Meadows, with their vibrant tapestry of native wildflowers and grasses, are a celebration of biodiversity and natural beauty. They can transform an area of your garden into an all-you-can-eat floral buffet for wildlife as well as providing a feast for the eyes. There are two potential options to choose from when considering creating a meadow, with each having different maintenance requirements. The first utilises native plants and grasses and could potentially be created from your existing lawn (with a bit of work!). The second is an annual floral meadow grown from seed each year on bare soil, which can incorporate a mix of both native and exotic flowers.
