Grow plants suited to your conditions’. That’s what we’re always told. I get it, it makes sense. I want to grow things that thrive. But I make an exception for succulents. Green and lush Ireland isn’t quite the place that springs to mind when someone mentions succulent gardens. It’s not the cold so much as the wet over winter that does the damage. I experiment with them, some planted outdoors permanently, others grown in the borders for the summer, then dug up in autumn and moved under cover for winter before planting them out again the following spring.Read more in the October issue…
