A touch of bold, dark colour along with some simple updates has given Orla and David’s Galway new build a modern and luxurious feel.
For interior designer Orla Tighe of Brown House Interiors, and her husband David, a global supply chain manager with Medtronic, owning a modern airy house had long been their dream. So given the opportunity to build their own home on land near Tuam, Co. Galway, was great cause for celebration. But, they had to overcome the small matter of gaining planning permission. ‘Our site was on a steep hill and the house needed to sit into the hill and go no higher than the horizon according to the initial planning meeting we had with the local council,’ explains Orla. The couple enlisted the help of an architect who came up with an innovative design that they thought would sail through. Unfortunately the plan was refused three times, ‘On the last occasion we were told that the planners just didn’t like the design and they would not be granting permission for it,’ explains Orla.Read more in the January issue…
