In East Cork, Sharon and her husband embarked on a heartfelt journey to restore and modernise a historic Georgian farmhouse that has been in their family for generations.

This home renovation has successfully kept the traditional details synonymous with an Irish farmhouse dating back to the early 1800s while pairing them with contemporary comfort, creating a warm and inviting home that pays homage to its storied history. The Georgian property’s story dates back to 1822 and features outhouses that predate the main structure. ‘It came into my husband’s family in 1905,’ Sharon begins. ‘His great-grandparents acquired it, and it was later passed down through his parents. As they aged, maintaining the house became more challenging for them, so they proposed the ultimate home swap. We would move into the farmhouse, and they would downsize. It was such a lovely idea, and we agreed on a timeline – but then the pandemic hit.’
