Americans have always been considered generous, and artist Jim Shore is no exception. When his friend Patrick jokingly asked ‘Hey, Jim, why don’t you buy us a beautiful house in Connemara?’ that’s just what he did.Originally a small stone cottage overlooking the Atlantic, Stream’s End was bought and extended in the late 1980s by a US sound engineer working with a Chicago-based band. He had severely diminished eyesight, hence the emphasis on the capture of light; there is floor to ceiling glazing in every room, but by 2006 when Jim bought the house, the interiors had dated and needed a radical makeover.
