A Rural Retreat
This new build in Co. Cavan is home to Eloise, her husband Sean and their two small children. It is a bespoke design and a space they love coming home to.
We wanted something different. We wanted a house that looks like it belongs in the landscape, and full of natural light,’ explains paediatric nurse Eloise Duffy of their new-build home on husband Sean’s home farm in Co. Cavan. Although they started planning the house in 2017, the seed was planted much earlier when they lined up in a tent for a free consultation at the National Ploughing Championships in Laois in 2015. ‘There were several architects there, so we just took the next one who became free’, says Eloise. Chance dictated that this was Tom O’Brien, of t o b Architect. ‘We knew that we were going to build on a site at Sean’s farm and Tom is from a farm in Co. Tipperary, he understood farm life and obviously respected the countryside. We told him that we wanted to create a home that was reflective of the surrounding land, and we just clicked with Tom.’Read more in the January issue…
