Great Expectations

Mags Connolly recounts her recent stay in the luxurious surrounds of Ashford Castle.

My parents had enjoyed an anniversary celebration at Ashford Castle, so even before I arrived I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed based on their experience, however, my time spent here definitely exceeded my expectations. You can’t fail to be impressed by the luxurious surroundings, but for me it was the level of hospitality and the friendly staff that really set it apart. On arrival we were greeted with a gin toddy while we got checked in. With our bags already on their way, we then headed to our room to get settled in and refresh after a four and a half hour drive from Bangor in Co. Down. Our home for the next few days was a beautifully decorated suite with two luxurious bathrooms and a lounge area separate from the bedroom. A bottle of Champagne was waiting for us along with some sweet treats, which we took the time to enjoy while deciding what we were going to do next.
