Salem
You wouldn’t want to miss Salem in October, the city comes alive to the sights and sounds of ghosts, witches and things that go bump in the night.Things to see and do
The catalyst for Salem embracing everything Halloween can be traced back to popular 70’s sitcom ‘Bewitched’. Filmed on location around the city, the popularity of the show encouraged the local economy to embrace their history. This led to the creation of the Haunted Happenings Festival, which takes place throughout October. Every year the city welcomes 250,000 visitors with events celebrating Halloween and Salem’s unique history. Complementing the city’s museum and historical sites, the ‘Witch City’ becomes the Halloween capital of the world and is home to everything from haunted harbour cruises and ghost tours, to costume balls and theatre shows. Special programs and events include the Salem Fright Fest, a programme of screenings of iconic horror films alongside talks and guest appearances.
