This month, we ventured to Co. Armagh and here are the highlights of our trip.
Best View – Slieve Gullion
Rising dramatically at the heart of the Ring of Gullion, Slieve Gullion is a mountain steeped in myth, legend and breathtaking natural beauty. As the highest point in County Armagh, its stony summit rewards walkers with spectacular views stretching across South Armagh, Carlingford Lough and, on a clear day, as far as Dublin Bay and the Wicklow Mountains. Explore the mountain’s rich heritage and ancient landscapes on its walking trails, discover the lake and other hidden gems, or take the scenic Forest Drive through a landscape that turns purple with heather and wild fuchsia in summer. This drive will take about 20-minutes along a narrow one-way road that winds up and over the mountain. With a history reaching back almost 7,000 years, and a landscape recognised for its outstanding natural and environmental value, it’s easy to understand why W. B. Yeats described Slieve Gullion as ‘the most mystic mountain in Ireland.’
Best Coffee – Halfway House
I know it’s not your typical cup of Joe, but with the weather getting colder and our nights are officially getting longer, why not warm yourself up with a true Irish Coffee at Halfway House in Banbridge. Order a warm glass of it or book yourself into a class to learn how you can make it at home. Hosted by owner Caorlan, he’ll give a lively, hands-on lesson in making the perfect Irish Coffee – rich coffee, smooth Irish whiskey, and silky cream – just how we like it!

Best Food – Uluru
Located in the heart of Armagh, Uluru is a relaxed restaurant with a menu that combines steaks and seafood cooked over real charcoal with burgers, stone-baked pizzas and dishes shaped by Australian and Asian flavours. Expect generous plates, an informal atmosphere and a menu that works for a quick lunch, a family meal or a longer dinner with wine and you should definitely go here for the wine! Last year, Uluru won Top Wine Experience in the county during the annual Armagh Food & Cider Weekend.

Best Pint – Hole in The Wall
Dating back to 1615, The Hole in the Wall has a colourful and fascinating history. Originally built as a jail, prisoners were said to have received food from their families through a hole in the wall, giving the historic Armagh premises its name. In 1693, it was granted its first licence as a public house, beginning a new chapter in its story. Today, Joanne Shilliday continues to build on that heritage, creating new experiences while keeping the character and community spirit of the pub firmly at its heart. That includes Rascals & Rogues, a whiskey inspired by the rascals and rogues once imprisoned within its walls, alongside Good Times, a 4.5% hazy pale ale created specifically for the bar. That same entrepreneurial spirit has grown beyond the pub, with Joanne developing new ways to bring people into Armagh through ERA Music Festival, the Armagh Beer Festival, and ventures including the ERA All Day coffee truck and Fizz Matters, a popular mobile tuk-tuk bar available for private hire.
