Things to see and do
Strokestown Park is a unique visitor attraction in Strokestown, Co. Roscommon. It consists of Strokestown Park House, a Georgian Palladian mansion preserved with its original furnishings and fabrics. It was once a family home belonging to the Pakenham Mahon family and the Landlord Major, Denis Mahon was assassinated at the height of The Great Famine of Ireland in 1847. Aptly so, the Irish National Famine museum has been situated here since 1994. The six acre walled gardens have been lovingly restored to their original splendour and give a great insight into horticultural design and architecture from the 1740s to present day.
