Carrickfergus

The town itself is dominated by the famous Carrickfergus Castle, built in the 12th Century, it is Ireland’s oldest and best preserved Norman citadel. The castle now houses historical displays as well as cannons from the 17th to the 19th centuries. The massive walls of the outer ward were completed in 1242, while the red-brick gun ports were added in the 16th century.
