All Set For Christmas

Expert tips for creating a beautiful dining table to enjoy the most important meal of the year.

Truffle Tablescapes founder Kate Fairlie advises building your tablescape in layers. ‘Once you’ve chosen a beautiful tablecloth or runner, you can build on your look by layering up from there. Construct each place setting with placemats, charger plates, crockery, napkins, pretty cutlery and statement glassware,’ says Kate, who also recommends repurposing décor from around the home. ‘We all tend to have special decorations around our homes during the festive season – these are perfect for using on your table too. For example, mini Christmas trees or stags displayed on a mantle or sideboard can be added to the centre of your table for the duration of your meal. I’d also recommend buying a few more flowers than is needed for your table so they can be displayed in vases elsewhere in the room. This will help to create a continuity between your table and its surroundings.
