The Dark Side

Working with Kerwood Design, these Co. Wicklow homeowners were encouraged to leave their creative comfort zone and the results speak for themselves.

Traditionally, the Scandinavian colour palette has hovered around the cooler end of the spectrum but in this new Scandi-inspired, single storey, long house in Co. Wicklow, the homeowners took Kerwood Design’s advice and raised the temperature to stunning by introducing a darker note. ‘We looked at a lot of images on Instagram but when we saw samples of Kerwood Design’s work we simply fell in love with their designs,’ says owner Stephanie. ‘When we met designer Ben Kerrigan, we explained that we wanted a modern, Shaker style kitchen, with a timeless quality. We didn’t want to have to upgrade for a long time! Ben was great, he knew exactly what we wanted to achieve. Although, admittedly in the beginning I wasn’t sure about his suggestion to use the darker Farrow & Ball Railings for the drinks cabinet and bookshelves in the adjoining living room, but in the end, he was right. It’s beautiful and was definitely the right decision.’
