Toronto is one of the world’s most multiculturally diverse cities. July is the perfect time to visit this vibrant, Canadian city, with an endless amount of things to explore.

Things to see and do

Toronto is situated on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario. It is a hustling, bustling city full of diversity, reflective of the historical role the city plays for immigrants to Canada. When you look at Toronto’s skyline, one of the first things that catches the eye is the iconic CN Tower, not unlike the space needle seen in Seattle. This tower is a marvel of 1970s engineering, and looks like a giant concrete hypodermic needle. It is used as a communications tower, but it is also one of the most popular tourist spots within the city. You can visit the tower and take the glass elevators up the highest freestanding structure in the world. The views from the top, on a clear day, are astounding, but be warned that queues for the elevator can be up to two hours on a busy day. It is worth the wait though, especially if you plan to dine in the revolving restaurant. If you are a bit of a thrill seeker, you can opt to do the EdgeWalk, which is a 20 minute outdoor walk around the unbounded perimeter of the main pod – not for the faint of heart! Even if you don’t manage to get to the top, you will most definitely want to witness the amazing light show that happens at night all year round.

The Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) is a must do when in the city, as Canada’s biggest natural history museum and one of the largest museums in North America. The museum features over six million specimens and artefacts, so you might want to set aside quite a bit of time to really get your teeth into it. The Chinese temple sculptures, Gallery of Korean Art, and costumes and textile collections are some of the best in the world. Children will love the dinosaur rooms, Egyptian mummies and Jamaican bat-cave replica, so it’s definitely one the entire family can enjoy.
